Another Palm Tree?

As summer is drawing to a close, I am full of expectation for the new season!  This summer has been a wonderful time filled with family and friends, the beach, swimming, grilling, hanging out, and enjoying life.

Some may remember Tom saying that we have enough palm trees in our yard as a response to me wanting to buy another Phoenix palm for our yard.  So, Emma, my granddaughter, and I counted the palm trees in our side yard and back yard.  There were 21 palm trees!  That does not include our front yard – which has quite a few.  So, I guess we do have enough – although I still think another Phoenix palm would look great right next to our house!

As I was watering some plants in our back yard, I thought about the many palm trees in our yard.  They have sprouted up on their own.  We didn’t plant them.  They have flourished and multiplied.  In fact we regularly pull up baby palm trees!   I was reminded of the scripture in Psalms 92, which says the righteous will flourish or prosper like the palm trees.  The Amplified translation describes the palm tree as “long lived, stately, upright, useful and fruitful.”

Then of course I remembered the next couple of verses in this chapter, which say,
“Planted in the house of the Lord, they shall flourish in the courts of our God.
Growing in grace they shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be full of sap of spiritual vitality and rich in the verdure of trust, love, and contentment.”

God desires that we flourish and prosper, that we are planted, secure and rooted in the house of the Lord, that we are fruitful, that we produce, that we bring others to know the grace and love of God, that we are fully strengthened and satisfied in Him.  Not for us only, but to proclaim the Lord!  The Psalms 92:15 (Amp) says,  “They are living memorials to show that the Lord is upright and faithful to His promises; He is my Rock, and there is no unrighteousness in Him.”

Life has many seasons, some of which may seem less than flourishing.  Yet, as our roots are planted and secure in Him we will see that his promises are true.  We will declare and proclaim God’s faithfulness.   We will flourish as the palm tree.

God has dropped this word into my heart, Flourish.  I am ready to step into a season of flourishing.  I am looking forward to Women byDesign, starting up again on September 8th.   I pray it will be a time for the women to gather and be strengthened and encouraged, to grow in grace, to flourish, to enjoy time with girlfriends and family, to be fruitful in ministry to her own world around her and to prosper in what God has planned for her.
